Great Rhythm Brewing Company: Portsmouth, NH

Tuesday, May 09, 2017

Derek and I had heard from many friends that Great Rhythm Brewing Company in Portsmouth, NH was phenomenal. Derek is a huge IPA fan, so we knew we had to check this place out. When we decided to take a staycation for our Christmas break, we knew it was the perfect time to check it out.

The brewery is pretty cool. It has an open brewery floor plan, with a roped off area to the taproom. The bar itself in the taproom was a good size, but the tasting room was pretty small. As people were coming in, they were having a difficult time finding a place to sit. The outside of the building was absolutely beautiful. The ambiance of the brewery is very modern and clean. The fact that it was away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Portsmouth, offering their own parking lot, was also appealing.

I tried the Dolce. I'm not really a fan of IPA's, but Derek is, so I wanted to check out the brewery. I ordered the only non IPA on tap that day which was a stout, American Imperial Double. I rated it a 3.75 on Untaped. I noted that it was pretty good, but a bit bitter in the end. There were notes of coffee and Chocolate in the beer also.

Derek has a flight of IPAs. He liked all of them. He tried out Hi-Fi, Squeeze and Sticky. He liked them all, but he loved the citrus forward flavor of the Squeeze. He liked the Hi-Fi slightly more, because it was so hop forward. The sticky was also good, but had a hard time standing out amongst the other two beers that were out of this world.

This is definitely a Derek type of brewery, but I was glad I could also find something I like. This is a great place to unwind after a long day of work or to catch before dinner beers.
